JUMP LINKS:
I used asymmetrical balance to place the bubbles at different heights, creating a more natural movement through the space. High-value contrast and repetition keep the goldfish as the main focus, while a complementary-adjacent color scheme creates unity and harmony between the vibrant yellow bubbles and the dark green environment.

Design Rational
I chose a deep blue palette over warmer tones to better simulate a marine environment and create a stronger contrast for the subjects. Technically, I experimented with painterly brush nodes in Blender to translate Matisse's oil painting style into a 3D space; the resulting textures create a unique, fragmented look.
By deconstructing Matisse’s goldfish bowl into four separate spheres, I explored the theme of 'Individual Bubbles' which basically means the private spaces of experience and comfort we inhabit. While separated, the fish are unified by their forward-facing orientation, symbolizing a shared persistence and a focus on the future.

Final Reflection
What have I learnt during this module?
I have learned that design principles serve as the invisible framework that gives an artwork its impact. Every masterfully crafted piece uses principles such as balance, emphasis, and contrast to subtly guide the viewer’s eye and accentuate specific features. What I find most beautiful is that when these principles are applied correctly, they are not obvious to the naked eye. Instead, they provide a sense of structure and harmony that makes the work feel intentional and complete.
What did I enjoy the most?
My favorite part of the process was exploring how a single piece of art can inspire multiple new design directions. I learned that every small element is carefully integrated to build a cohesive and powerful image. Now, instead of just looking at design, I observe it more deeply to understand how those individual parts contribute to the final impact.
What did I not enjoy the most?
There weren't many aspects of this module that I didn't enjoy, but if I had to specify one, it would be the challenge of narrowing down my designs during the development stage. Because I found value and potential in each of my initial sketches, it was difficult to choose just one direction to proceed with. I’ve realized that being a designer often means making tough editorial choices to ensure the final output is the most effective one.
What have I learnt about myself through this module?
I was surprised by my ability to consistently meet deadlines within such a condensed seven-week semester. This experience allowed me to acknowledge significant growth in my time management skills, which I am eager to continue refining. On a technical level, I discovered that I can now analyze and identify design principles with much greater clarity, and more importantly, I have gained the confidence to intentionally apply them to my own creative work.
What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
My design thinking process has undergone the most significant shift. I am now much more intentional about applying design principles, moving away from a purely unconscious approach. While my growth has felt gradual rather than sudden, I can see a clear evolution in how I analyze and create. My technical 3d pipeline has also evolved as I have integrated new tools that significantly streamline my workflow. What remains unchanged, however, is my core passion for design. I still find joy in creating visually engaging work, but I now do so with a deeper understanding and the same curiosity I’ve always had for the designs I see every day.
What are my aspirations?
My aspiration is to consistently apply the intentional design thinking I’ve developed in this module to all my future work. I am eager to see how these principles will uplift my creativity and help me produce more sophisticated designs. I look forward to continuing my growth, refining my technical workflow, and bringing a deeper level of insight to every project I undertake.
