Assignment 02: Concept & Narrative Development
Assignment 2 is a continuation of Assignment 1, where we focused on developing a storyboard, narrative outline, and mood board to visually communicate our concept—detailing how the scenes would unfold and the camera angles that would best capture them.
Before our consultation, I drafted a rough outline of the narrative, building upon the foundation established in Assignment 1. I made initial decisions on the overall structure and presentation, which I then shared with my groupmates during class. I was pleased that they agreed with the direction overall, with some adjustments made towards the ending. Additionally, Natania took the initiative to consult a friend specializing in dance to determine gestures and positions that would best represent our theme.
Our goal was to create a heartwarming yet relatable visual experience.
Week 4 Consultation (24/02/25):
- Include more video clips and inspirational photos to make it more comprehensive.
- Compile individual moodboards into one cohesive board while still preserving individual details.
- Current visuals are not clear enough to fully convey the concept.
- Consider ways to visually differentiate the characters’ backgrounds and past experiences.
- Consider ways to visually differentiate the characters’ backgrounds and past experiences.
- Ensure the concept is strong and easily understandable for the audience.
- Explore creative uses of the floor, such as incorporating typography or split-screen elements.
- Focus on how these elements can enhance storytelling and audience engagement.
Moodboard Preparation:
- Before creating the moodboard for each separate section (e.g., exposition, conflict, etc.), our group should first compile all visual inspirations into a single slide, incorporating all relevant colors and themes. This will ensure consistency and help Mr. Zeon better understand the overall visual direction.
- This was mostly focused on the exposition part. To avoid redundancy, the heart should not appear both on the wall and within the scene. Instead, the floor will feature a distinct visual element— for example, if the heart is beating, the floor could display a pulsing effect to complement the movement.
- Scene 1 will be refined to focus on establishing the exposition and clearly introducing the narrative.
- All storyboards must adhere to a uniform artistic style and align with the final output format to maintain cohesiveness.
- We will identify an artist or art style that closely aligns with our concept to guide our design approach.
- The flat layer effect will be evaluated. If it supports the concept, we will keep it; otherwise, we will explore techniques to enhance depth and visual engagement.

This assignment has deepened my understanding of creating projection mapping content with a focus on storytelling and emotional engagement. Our project explores the themes of love and the butterfly effect, aiming to evoke a sense of personal connection and reflection from the audience.
Through this process, I realized how crucial it is to ensure that every visual element on the screen serves a purpose and contributes to the overarching narrative. Each detail, whether in color, movement, or design, plays a significant role in conveying the emotional undertones of the story, creating an immersive experience for the audience. Additionally, I learned to refine our visual content based on feedback from our lecturer. By incorporating his questions and suggestions to improve transitions and visual consistency, as a group, we were able to ensure the presentation flows smoothly, maintaining audience engagement throughout.
