Research

If we're talking about 2D games, I’m a big fan of puzzle-platformers and fast-paced combat games. One game that really stands out for me is VVVVVV—a game my dad introduced to me years ago, and it’s still stuck with me to this day.

Naturally, it made it onto my list of game inspirations, which includes:

  1. VVVVVV
  2. Chronology
  3. Dead Cells
  4. Poptropica (Though it's much more light-hearted, focusing on exploration and puzzles rather than intense combat or platforming mechanics. But it’s appealing due to its creative storytelling and unique island themes, offering a fresh and imaginative experience.)

Attached below is my research and analysis of these relevant games:

When it comes to storytelling and game lore, I’m really into fantasy, isekai, and power-leveling manhwas (and if you’re reading this, chances are you love them too :>)

Ideate

Based on my research, here are my three rough (improved!) game ideas. They’re not as rough anymore after consulting with Sir Razif, who suggested I elaborate further on the storyline and establish clearer objectives and rewards. Additionally, I’ve incorporated more visual references to better support and illustrate my concepts:

Sir also suggested that I select 2 out of the 3 game concepts to elaborate on for my presentation. I decided to go with my second and third ideas because, while the first concept is interesting, it focuses primarily on leveling up and doesn't offer much in terms of story development. Below are the slides and the video presentation:
